Master Electrician

Job Dates: Immediate opening, full-time position
Pay: $35,000 plus benefits, with relocation assistance
Reports to: Production Manager

Qualifications:
Working knowledge in Technical Theatre techniques including but not limited to, ETC
lighting control systems, moving lights, conventional lights counterweight fly systems,
basic scenic carpentry, and basic theatrical rigging.
Open to learning new systems and working in an environment with volunteers
A minimum of one year of previous experience is required.

Overview: 
The Master Electrician (ME) working with the lighting designer and lighting volunteers
will be responsible for Prep, Hang and Focus for all VT Productions. The Master
Electrician will be required to lift 50 lbs. unassisted, work on ladders, lifting equipment,
and at heights. They will work with the lighting designer and lighting volunteers to hang
and focus lights and equipment for VT productions. The Master Electrician will perform
show maintenance during VT Productions and events. The ME will be required to be on
call as needed to respond to and address lighting concerns in rehearsal and
performance reports. The ME will be tasked with performing and upkeeping a lighting
inventory for all lighting equipment. The Master Electrician will perform general
maintenance for VT lighting equipment. The ME will assist the Production Department in
all strikes and load-ins, including general tasks beyond lighting as needed. The Master
Electrician is required to help in scenic construction and other areas of production as
needed. The Master Electrician may have the opportunity to design for compensation
beyond normal salary. The ME will be required to run Productions and Concerts as
needed. The Master Electrician will be required to work with the VT Education
Department as assigned.

VT Master Electrician in-depth Job description and duties

1-Prep for Hang and Focus for all VT Productions
This includes but not limited to
– Meeting with the lighting Designer and going over paperwork
– Sorting inventory
– Pulling gels and templates
– Ordering, renting, obtaining equipment and supplies as needed
– Setting up the tech table to designer specifications
– Attending Production meetings

2- Hang and focus lights for Lighting Designer
This includes and requires but not limited to
–   Working with and leading Lighting Volunteers
–   Lifting 30-50 lbs. unassisted and at heights
–   Working on ladders and at heights
–   Working on lift equipment at heights
–   Circuiting lighting equipment
–   Dressing cable
–   Running Data cable and control networking
–   Dropping gel and focusing
–   Installing, running power and data to Atmospheric effects
–   Creating show paperwork for Stage manager
–   Programing as needed and requested by Designer

3- Perform show maintenance during VT Productions
This includes and requires but not limited to
–   Daily channel and lamp checks
–   Changing lamps as needed
–   Filling fog and haze machines and other atmospheric effects
–   Addressing other performance lighting issues as needed

4- Responding and addressing lighting concerns in rehearsal and
performance reports.
This includes and requires but not limited to
– Responding to daily Rehearsal and Performance reports in a timely
manner.
–   General repairs
–   Following up with Lighting Designer

5- Perform and upkeep a lighting inventory for all lighting equipment
This includes and requires but not limited to
–   Create and maintain a maintenance schedule
–   Create and update an inventory per show and per-space

6- Perform general maintenance for VT lighting equipment
This includes and requires but not limited to
–   General repairs
–   Scheduling maintenance of equipment and sending out equipment for
repair.

7- Assist the production department in Strikes and load ins.
This includes and requires but not limited to
–   Remove practical and lighting equipment during strike
–   Assist in the striking of scenery and sound equipment
–   Assist in load-in of scenery
–   Wire all practical scenic lighting and effects with or without volunteers

8- Help scenic construction as needed

9- Assist all production departments as needed

10- Run shows and concerts as needed
–   Run concerts as Stage Manager and provide lighting

11- Work with the Education department as assigned.
–   Program lighting for Education showcases and events
–   Train volunteers for Education showcases and events
–   Prep for Education events.

12- May have the opportunity to design.

Props Artisan

Job Dates: Immediate opening, part-time position
Pay: Contracted by season needs per show
Reports to: Production Manager

Qualifications:
~ Expertise in fine woodworking, cabinetry, metal forming, and fabrication along with
standard theatrical prop construction techniques.
~ Proficient on table saws, band saws, chop saws, belt sanders, MIG welder, cold cut
saw, grinders, and assorted hand tools.
~ Proficient in painting and detailing
~ Able to build from construction drawings and in some cases photographs.
~ Able to craft the unusual out of unconventional materials.
~ Skilled in basic office software
~ Able to work with volunteers
~ Welding would be useful but not required

Overview: 
The Properties Artisan will work with the Properties Mistress to create and acquire all
prop elements required for Venice Theatre productions as well as outside build
contracts. While the focus of this position will be mainly on construction and design, this
position will also be working on other hand props and set dressing.
The Properties Artisan will be required to lift 50 lbs. unassisted, work on ladders, lifting
equipment, and at heights.
The Properties Artisan may be required to perform show maintenance during VT
Productions. They will be required to respond to and address prop concerns in
rehearsal and performance reports.

Essential Functions 
-Responsible for the construction repairs and maintaining rehearsal and show props for
Venice Theatre productions.
-Projects may include but are not limited to:
* Furniture fabrication.
* Delivering and transferring props to theatres and rehearsal halls.
* Dress the scenery with props during load-ins and as necessary with maintenance
* Fabricating or altering hand, paper, or consumable props.
* Set decorations and dressing.
-Maintain Prop Department tools and equipment.
-Work with other production shop staff and volunteers to maintain a safe and organized
work area.
-Completes research and shops online as requested.
-Attends company, department, shop meetings, and safety training as assigned.
-Assist the Properties Supervisor in maintaining the organization and condition of
Venice Theatre prop stock.

Preferred Skills 
-Effective communicator with designers, staff and over hire.
-Able to promote and cultivate a safe and organized work environment.
-Attentive to detail, accountable and skilled in time management.
-An understanding of period appropriate furniture, hand props and printed materials
-Painting, sculpting, and gadgetry skills.
-Sewing skills and knowledge of standard upholstery techniques.
-Able to or willingness to learn to drive a box truck.

Physical Demands + Scheduling Requirements
-Must be able to lift and move items weighing at least 50 pounds.
-Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting and
bending, climbing ladders.
-Ability to work from heights (ie grids, catwalks, ladders, and personnel lifts).
-Available to work nights and weekends. Workdays could be long and could include
long periods of time either sitting or standing.
-Venice residencies may be required based on production schedules.

Box Office Associate

Overview
Venice Theatre has an immediate opening and seeks a qualified individual to serve as
Box Office Associate. Reporting to the Box Office Manager but working within the
framework of an office-wide collaborative team, the position calls for a flexible and
adaptable individual with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
This position currently is part-time (25 hours per week) with possibility to move into full
time.

Primary goals of the position will be to provide excellent patron service to subscribers
and ticket buyers and facilitate Venice Theatre’s efforts to increase patron engagement.
Working in a creative environment, they will often be the first staff person to interact with
the public. They will support Box Office operations for single ticket and subscription
sales. In addition to some daytime hours, they will work selected evening hours and
weekends. They will be expected to have a working knowledge of the PatronManager
database. Advanced PatronManager training will be expected within a reasonable
period.

Specific Duties
Duties and tasks will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Greet patrons in a friendly manner
  • Answer Phones and direct caller to appropriate personnel
  • Be a primary staff member responsible for servicing season tickets, ticket
    exchanges, and single ticket sales
  • Identify and troubleshoot customer service issues to provide a fast and positive
    resolution for the customer
  • Provide information and transact sales for all Venice Theatre events
  • Develop strong relationship with PatronManager support staff
  • Reconcile onsite customer concerns
  • Collect patron feedback and fully input patron data through conversation
  • Distribute feedback to Box Office Manager and senior staff
  • Work with Box Office Manager and senior staff to monitor advance sales
  • Assist with PatronManager data management
  • Try, at all times, to provide patrons with a “yes”

Office Hours
Box Office hours are currently varied. Offsite calls are supported 10am – 5pm. Position
requires working nights and weekends during performances. On weeks when duty is
required in evenings and/or on weekends, office hours may be adjusted to allow for flex
time that maintains part – time hours.

  • Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as operate independently
  • Ability to multi-task and keep track of multiple projects in the midst of frequent
    interruptions or changing priorities
