In its 27th year, Troupe in a Trunk is one of VT’s oldest community engagement programs. It exposes young students to theatre and stimulates their imaginations by bringing live performances to Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte County elementary schools. With a minimum of set pieces, costumes and makeup,“Troupe” encourages students to use their creativity as a learning tool … by engaging senses not ordinarily utilized. “Troupe” brings the joy of live performance to over 6,000 area school-aged children, through storytelling and audience participation. The past couple years it has become a partner with the Early Learning Coalition for Story Book Time, an annual county event that encourages reading.
Thank you to our sponsors Venice Suncoast and Wellen Park Rotary Club!
Before each performance, the theatre provides teachers with materials related to the play. The teachers and students have the opportunity for discussion before or after the performance, building a bridge to the performing arts. Each school is also asked to assess and evaluate the performances in an effort to improve future productions.
Every spring TROUPE IN A TRUNK brings their show to approximately 9,600 area students free of charge.
